History
A love of history and an understanding of one’s own place in world history over time can be a source of well-being, fascination, cultural understanding and enjoyment - giving a sense of belonging and being rooted. Of equal value to knowing where our lives fit into history is knowing where history can fit into and contribute to our lives.
Our history curriculum is designed to cover all aspects of the National Curriculum. Learning is sequenced to ensure that pupils achieve the desired knowledge-based goals through a range of rich, inclusive and exciting tasks and opportunities. These will include:
- Handling artefacts;
- Visiting historic places of interest, museums and galleries;
- Engaging in workshops and drama reflecting the lives of significant individuals.
Year on year, learning is planned to enable pupils to know more and remember more about historic events and the life of important people who have influenced locally, nationally and internationally.
The History curriculum at Kings Hill
We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this they develop a sense of identity and learn to value their own and other people’s cultures in modern multicultural Britain. By considering how people lived in the past, pupils are better able to make their own life choices today.
The History curriculum will inspire curiosity and a love for learning so that pupils can master and further deepen their knowledge through investigating past events and, by so doing, to develop the skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem-solving.
