PSHEE

At Valley Invicta Primary School at Kings Hill, personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an embedded part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is at the heart of our school ethos and permeates through many areas of the curriculum. The Fundamental British Values are promoted through the overarching aims and objectives of PSHE by supporting our children to become healthy and responsible members of society, as well as preparing them for life beyond school in modern Britain. This goes hand in hand with our drive as a school to be a Gold Rights Respecting School, that celebrates the pupils, staff and community being confident, respectful and caring citizens.

The aim of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver meaningful learning experiences, which are accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. At Valley Invicta Primary School at Kings Hill, personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. Additionally, it aims to help them to understand how they develop personally and socially, and tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

We believe passionately in providing our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society in an ever-changing world. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. Resilience plays a pivotal role in the development of our children’s lives and we nurture this by adopting a growth mindset at all times. The children at our school see mistakes as learning opportunities and we embrace these as much as achievements.

Although PSHE is taught weekly through stand-alone lessons following our bespoke spiral curriculum, that uses resources from PiXL’s Mind to Be Kind and the PSHE Associations, it underpins all assemblies and is woven through the whole school curriculum and ethos. In addition, it influences extra-curricular activities, focus days, visitors and trips. Central to our PSHE curriculum is pupil (and staff) wellbeing. As a community, we value creating strong attachments with our pupils; creating a safe and secure environment for learning is paramount. Activities that support wellbeing and mindfulness are featured heavily through our bespoke schemes of work and extra-curricular clubs.
