Art Spark Day
On Friday 17 May we enjoyed an Art Spark Day across the whole school. Year 2 to Year 6 studied a painting by Peter De Hooch called ‘Courtyard of a House in Delft’. Each year group completed a reflective study in their sketchbooks and then focused on a different aspect of the painting for their response.
Year 2 were looking at the idea of contrasts in the artwork and produced some beautiful vine studies using contrasting colours and words.
Year 3 thought about repeating patterns and enjoyed creating giant mandalas outside in the playground.
Year 4 considered the idea of overlapping shapes and created some fabulous pop-up images as a response.
Year 5 created this brilliant freeze frame of the image and had fun learning how to make flick books with moving images.
Year 6 thought about tessellating shapes, and produced some careful studies in their sketchbook.
It was wonderful to see the children engaging with a 17th Century painting and showing such excitement as they expressed themselves creatively in response to the work.
