MP visit to support school climate campaign
Tom Tugendhat MP visited Valley Invicta Primary School at Kings Hill, today, as part of the staff and pupils’ ongoing climate campaign and commitment to help reduce greenhouse gases and protect the planet.
This morning, the whole school came together to pledge positive action and took part in a march, showcasing posters and poems created by the children.
The march was attended by John McLaverty and Ruth Bray from Oxfam who are also supporting the school campaign and Mr Tugendhat gave an excellent speech about global cooperation in tackling the challenges we face at a special assembly.
All those invited as guests agreed to sign the book of school pledges, which was introduced to set specific goals for environmental protection.
The book has already been signed by all school pupils and staff and includes pledges to reuse paper, save water, not waste food, limit car journeys to school, recycle responsibly, turn off the lights when not in use, save electricity and not drop litter.
Tom Tugendhat MP said: “This book of pledges is a sign of hope for the future commitments and change. I look forward to seeing young activists become world leaders.”
Valley Invicta Primary School at Kings Hill Headteacher, Steph Guthrie, said: “We were delighted to welcome Tom Tugendhat MP, John McLaverty and Ruth Bray to support our climate action march. It was inspiring to have COP26 and the world issues around climate changes explained so eloquently and to see every member of our school community pledging to make their own difference.”
